2012 Doomsday/Domesday Part 5 (Assembly)

Friday 1 October 2010- Monday 4/10/2010

For today RUS 101 class, our following new assignment is assembly the BIG DOME together. Encik WanB had been list out the different places for us to erect all the struts together according their groups/section. I'm in group4, struts B, so I am going to assemble the bamboo at E48B lecture hall nearby.

My assembly of section 4, struts B is located at E48B nearby.

At 3pm, we gather at E48B, and we have a small meeting and discussion before the assembly start.
X-men shows the real BIG DOME that going to present after the erection.

exlpain what part that we have to assembly later.

explain how's the way and concept that going to assembly the struts together.

After clear and undrstand the concept, we start our assembly! First thing, carry our bamboo to the field out of E48B. Then, take the connection screw to erect those bamboo struts together!

take the connection screw

Start assembling.........

when the struts are assembled, the top part of our section is exist.
Wauh! It is really BIG!

However, when we test to make it stand, most of the bamboo struts are loose and dropped down from the PVC joint. Oh god.. Our effort are gone!! we have to join bamboo struts and PVC joints again...

As the bamboo struts have been thinned, it become too slim, PVC joint keep fall off from it. So, we think out a way.... that is tied up a tyre around the thinned bamboo, increase the friction and durable between bamboo struts and PVC joint! Smart plan!

It's really become even tight, PVC joint is unable "separate" with bamboo struts anymore~

Around 6pm, we all dismiss. We decided met and gather at same place on Sunday 3/10/2010, time 3.30pm to complete the BIG DOME!

On Sunday, we reached and listened to Encik WanB briefing. Now, he got a new plan. He said, juzt erected and assembly whatever you like/you can, then exhibit on Monday 4/10/2010 class.

use super glue gum the loose part between PVC joint and Bamboo struts

COOL!

Here's the part that we assembly on Sunday evening.

On Monday, 4/10/2010, after the talks of Lompatan Apex Ke 2012, Encik WanB asked us clean up all the mess of bamboo, and move all the bamboo struts and the raft at swimming pool to somewhere, where we rehearsal for merdeka last time.

move-i-n-g......

FUN!! LALALA~
Lastly, DON'T THOUGHT THAT THE DOOMSDAY IS END!!! Encik WanB said he will try for the erection and assembly of BIG DOME again on following days.. It's really my doomsday...

2012 Doomsday/Domesday Part 4

Wednesday 29/9/2010

As yesterday the bengkel is closed and our PVC joint are too late for "shaping" and "curving", so today eaaly morning, around 8am, we're reaching the bengkel for completed this task.

Not reached 8am yet, uncle is started to work, help us to cut the PVC joint.

waiting for uncle to curve and shape the PVC joint

But, we're so "lucky".. When almost our turn, the tool is damaged!! ARGHH!! We quickly rush out from bengkel, line up again for cutting the PVC joint.

However, when our turn...... the tool is damaged..
We go out the bengkel waiting for another uncle helping.

On the same time, Encik Rusli Jamaluddin is giving some information and advise for installation of PVC joint with the Bamboo that we cut. He gives us some examples of strong structure bamboo and weak structure bamboo, which the skin is too thin, unable to support the all structure. He mentioned that, the weak and unstable bamboo erection will caused the IBU CONSTRUCTION collapsed due to the poor erection of bamboo.

Without wasting any time, after success in "curving" our PVC joint, we quickly move to sharpened the side of polypipe, for making a U-shape.

Next, we go to "BBQ".. We warm up the polypipe untill it turns soft, so it is easier for us to press it into flatter surface using two pieces of board.
BBQ the polypipe-ing...

Then, we embelished the sides of PVC joint as it looks untidy after warm up.

Here's the product that after shaping, curving, and embelishing

We marked a 'X' as a sign, for drill a hole in the centre.

This is the PVC joint that after drill a hole, so, we can tied them up with a screw.

After class. around 5.30pm, we gather again for re-cut and re-thinning the bamboo. This is because, we realised that we are wrong on measuring. The actual length of struts, 2.284m is actually measured from the hole of PVC joints to another end of hole.
We measure again the length that we have to cut down

We marked it up, the most left side is the part that we have to cut down.
Then the following next part is the part that we have to thin it up.

cutting the extra part that we don't need

thin it up with "parang knife" and hammer

fixed the PVC joint with the bamboo

Dang dang! We're completed our struts!
YEAH YEAH!

Yes!!! Finally! I've completed my part of struts!! lalalala~ Although it is sounds simple and easy concept, but when we do it, just realised that inside include many techniques and details. This few days, I already can't remeber how many times I been run between HBP and Rumpun Buluh. Woo~~ sweaty, tired, smelly, dirty, and tough week! What ever, after buzy and forced for waked up EARLIER for few days, I finally Done my part!! Woohoo.

Quite anxious to met the day, see how the whole construction can be erected and constructed. It must be huge and spectacular. I cannot wait to see how amazing and touching when the IBU CONSTRUCTION can be constructed and produced. By the way, for those friends that haven't completed yet, KEEP FIGHTING!! gambateh~

2012 Doomsday/Domesday Part 3

Tuesday 28/9/2010

Today early morning, around 10am, our group reached HBP bengkel cutting the PVC joint for the erection of DOME.

Here's the PVC joint that reached in early morning.

With the help of friends, we cut the PVC joints into small section.

After taking the PVC joint, we move to another size for cutting it into the real size we need for the installation of bamboos. The PVC joints is really hard and tough, I still "accidentally" damaged the saw tools which borrowed from coursemate. >..< I'm so sorry~~~

Then, move to bengkel for cutting and shaping the PVC joints. The length are 10.0cm and 10.4cm respectively.

Next, we go find the stuff for helping us for curving the PVC joints. The uncle is really warmth and nice. Although there are a lot of PVC joints waiting for his help, however he is patient and nice when "service" us~ Thank you so much..

Our group member Mei Ling is waiting for curving the PVC joints.

But, as it is really too too many students waiting for help. So,when our turns, Uncle is knock off. Unfortunately... We have to come earlier for that on next morning~

2012 Domesday/Doomsday Part2

Monday 27/9/2010

Today's morning new announcement, we been called to bring all struts to the studio on this morning for further refinement.

On 8.30am, we gather at guardhouse and move to Rumpun Buluh, all the struts that we cut on last friday to Studio 101!!!!

Around 9.00am, after taking the bamboos out from the Rumpun Buluh, with the help of friends, we cross the road quickly~ and taking bus for sending those bamboos to HBP E48B.

When we reached there, after listen the briefing for the refinement, we realised that some of the struts size are not match with the PVC joints , additional on that, some of the bamboos are accidently stepped and break, so we go back to Rumpun Buluh again for cuting the new ones- with a motorbike.

When we come back, we started for cutting and shaping the struts, 11.8cm on the end of struts are shapened, for erection of PVC joints. By the way, for the struts that more than 7.5cm in diameter, we're cutting it to smaller also.
